Diego Occhiuzzi is an Italian sabre fencer, who won Olympic silver in individual event and bronze in team in 2012. In the World Cup that held in Algiers in 2008 he managed to gain qualification for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. In his first Olympic games in Peijing, together with Luigi Tarantino, Aldo Montano and Giampiero Pastore, he won the bronze medal in the team event. For nine consecutive seasons (2007-2016) Diego has maintained his world ranking place in the top 20, showing outstanding class for nearly a decade. Among fencing fans, Diego Occhiuzzi is called Luis Suarez of fencing due his fiery personality and unusual fencing style. Outside the piste, he created Milleculure association, which goal is to help young people, so that they can practice sports in the city facilities. Diego Occhiuzzi plays a significant role in the development of the sport in Italy and is also a role model for young fencers.
