In this video Heimler walks you through yet another one of your required Supreme Court cases for the AP Government curriculum, namely, Roe v. Wade.

This decision, handed down in 1972, has generated a firestorm of controversy. The case legalized abortion on demand throughout the United States. Women's rights advocates saw this decision as a victory that put their reproductive freedom in their own hands. On the other hand, conservatives of various stripes, not least Catholic and Evangelical Christians, saw this decision as evidence of the declining morals of America.

Either way, the case was decided on the merits of a woman's right to privacy which the Court argued exists implicitly rather than explicitly in several amendments contained in the Bill of Rights.
