The Western Australia government handing over control of land to traditional owners is “typical Labor spin” because it is not a “great and magnanimous gesture”, Pastoralists and Graziers Association President Tony Seabrook says.

The Western Australian government is preparing to hand over control of eight per cent of the state's territory to traditional owners.

The area, known as the Aboriginal Land Trust, covers 20 million hectares and includes 284 parcels of land, 142 permanent Aboriginal settlements and five pastoral leases.

“This is typical Labor spin – it’s unbelievable that they are making this out as though it’s some great and magnanimous gesture,” Mr Seabrook told Sky News Australia host Caleb Bond.

“You need to also ask yourself the question: ‘What would Jacinta Price say about this?’ This is this separatism thing, again; this is building a nation within a nation and it’s a bit of a worry – it’s more than that, it’s a desperate worry.

“It’s a very complex debate we’re entering into.”
