TV's Saturday Morning Cartoon Legacy: The Archie Show (Lou Scheimer interview & Sugar Sugar)

Описание к видео TV's Saturday Morning Cartoon Legacy: The Archie Show (Lou Scheimer interview & Sugar Sugar)

We continue our tribute to The Archie Show, which debuted September 14, 1968 on CBS; continuation of the interview (off The Archie Show DVD) with Archie Show producer Lou Scheimer.

Filmation studios began in 1962, with Lou Scheimer, Hal Sutherland and Norm Prescott as founders. Scheimer and Sutherland had met earlier at a smaller studio called True Line, and was doing work for a larger Japanese company called SIB. Paramount Studios purchased SIB, and Schmeimer and Sutherland were teamed with Norm Preston, and Filmation was founded soon after.

As noted by Mr. Scheimer, Filmation became a key and critical animation studio in the transition of children's Saturday morning television of the mid 1960s towards a 'kinder-and-gentler' Saturday morning of the 1970s. By the later part of the 1960s, children's television was running at top speed, but may not have always been in synch with what parents wanted their children to absorb.

The Archie Show became a juggernaut for both CBS and Filmation. The partnership of Filmation, Archie with pop music, and music producer Don Krischner spelled pure gold for all involved! One byproduct (a huge one) of the cartoon and Don Krischner's brilliance was the pop music hit sensation 'Sugar Sugar', sung by lead singer Ron Dante. The song became one of the top ten highest selling singles in North America of the entire decade!

More later this weekend on Filmation, and The Archie Show in particular.

Enjoy !
