Introduction
Are you thinking of coming to the UK as a student and hope to bring your family at some point, hang on, things are not looking good. From this week, the Government plan to ban most foreign students from bringing their family into the UK.

Welcome
Hello & welcome to my channel, my name is Gbemiga Peter Olubayo. The british Government in response to the rocketing net immigration which stood at a million have announced a major crackdown coming into effect this week. This would mean that majority of the students will not be able to obtain a dependant visa and therefore, will not be able to bring their family over which is a major determinant for choosing the next destination for married foreign students.

What led to the Crackdown?
Students brought 135,788 family members to Britain last year - nine times more than in 2019

What is the Government trying to do?
As you know that the UK is a small island and the limited resources such as housing, the NHS (the health system) and more are overstretch already. Sadly, the government is already struggling and foresee a more difficulty to maintain a good quality life for the british people if the immigration continue to rise.

Who is affected?
- This ban will affect Masters and post graduate students who apply for courses usually lasting just a year or thereabout with the hope of bringing their family and also stay eventually in the UK on a post Graduate visa or transfer to a skill work route on landing a favourable job. NOTE: The ban will not apply to PHD students, whose courses usually last between 3 and 5 years and are very highly skilled.

What is the implication for foreign students?
- No family members -Adults or children might be able to join the Master student during their stay. Of course, having family members around means a lot to all of us, how much more, the people who have come to study in a foreign land.

Implication for the UK economy?
The Government is well aware of the massive contribution of the students and their families to the UK economy via payments for 1) Visa - both students and their dependants 2) Immigration health surcharges 3) Travels industry. New data reveals that the intake of international students in the 2021/22 academic year contributed a huge £41.9 billion to the UK economy. On average, a british citizen is £560 better off because of international students

We’ll also expect the UK to become less attractive to prospective students among others.
