Growing up in the projects of New York City, Sunday nights meant watching The Ed Sullivan Show with my friends. The Beatles, Jackson 5, The Supremes—we never missed it.

But what I didn’t realize as a kid was how Ed Sullivan was quietly revolutionizing America. He challenged segregation, elevated Black artists, and changed the conversation about race from the 1940s through 1971.

After watching Netflix’s powerful documentary “Sunday Best,” I learned that Ed Sullivan’s true genius was his leadership philosophy: “I know talent.” He didn’t seek the spotlight—he used his platform to shine it on others.

Stevie Wonder. Harry Belafonte. Elvis Presley. The Beatles. He brought the greatest talent to American living rooms, regardless of race, at a time when that was revolutionary.

This video is my reflection on what true leadership looks like: using your power to amplify voices that are being silenced.
