Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Lijnzaad, a Judge at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and Professor of International Law at Maastricht University, delivered public lecture on dispute settlement in the law of the sea, especially based on the framework of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982).



Prof. Dr. Liesbeth first talked about the history of dispute settlement before UNCLOS 1982 which traditionally based on customary international law. She then told us on the lengthy discussion during the formulation of UNCLOS 1982 in regards with dispute settlement provisions. Lastly, Prof. Dr. Liesbeth delivered an in-depth breakdown of dispute settlement system within UNCLOS 1982 and an overview on its rules of procedure.
