Описание к видео First Window Code using XWindows in X64 Linux Assembly

/* S.G.M.P */

This is an implementation of first window code using XWindows written in X64 Linux Assembly Language.

I have been learning Real Time Rendering(RTR) under the guidance of my Guru, Dr. Vijay D Gokhale Sir, since past few months in RTR06 Batch. In this we cover OpenGL Compatibility Pipeline and OpenGL Core Pipeline on 6 different platforms. Amongst those platforms, one is Windows and another one is Linux. We complete well structured assignments that helps us understand OpenGL and the OS in a simple step by step manner.

As we start on a specific platform, we first implement the window creation code of that particular platform. So on Linux we learn native Linux SDK i.e. XWindows. On Linux using XWindows, Sir taught us how to create a Window using C programming language and that was mesmerizing.

So to take the learning and understanding of the technology and platform. I took upon a challenge to implement the first window code in x64 Linux Assembly. It took a lot of time and pain(SIGSEGV). But at the end it was without any doubt "WORTH IT".

I got to learn many things from this implements, to name a few,
1. Exact sizes of the structures used in the code.
2. Memory offsets of the members of the structures.
3. Procedure Linkage Table(PLT) and Global Offset Table(GOT) (Got a deep understanding of this).
4. Stack alignment to 16.
And many more concepts.

Technical Stack:
1. Ubuntu 24.04 x64 bit (Noble Numbat)
2. XWindows SDK
3. x64 Linux Assembly
4. vim editor.

I would like to express my gratitude towards:

1. Dr Vijay D Gokhale Sir. For making many intricate and complex technology very simple to understand and learn and implement in lives and for changing the perspectives of looking at the technologies from 'just a way of earning income' to 'a way of understanding, implementing and mapping the technologies as a a way of living life".

2. Yogeshwar Shukla Sir. For making assembly learning more fun and simple to understand and implement.

3: Professional Assembly Language By Richard Blum (Book).
4. Assembly Language for x86 Processor By Kip R Irvin (Book).
