Trombone Lesson: Trombone Warmup - The First Note of the Day

As trombonists, how we approach our first note can set the tone for our playing day. In this video, I discuss my mental and physical approach to playing my "first note of the day." In my opinion, it’s a good idea to get the sound of the horn in your head first before practicing other exercises. I will demonstrate how I transfer the observation of my breathing cycle into creating a tone on the trombone. I’ll also share a simple trick that can help you to shift your focus away from what you're going to sound like when you play your first note and towards the efficiency of your airflow.
