With Tesla’s California production facility now operating at full capacity, and Tesla well underway building its gigafactory in Texas, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the US produces a large number of electric vehicles globally.

The reality however, is that the US is falling behind when it comes to the number of electric vehicles it makes. In fact, if you examine total global EV production over the last few years, the United States is producing fewer electric vehicles as a percentage today than it was a few years ago.
