Anemia as a comorbidity to kidney disease continues to be a prevalent topic in the kidney disease community as these conditions commonly effect people simultaneously. It is estimated that more than 1 out of every 7 people with kidney disease have Anemia. Also, the majority of people who suffer kidney failure are affected by Anemia

To reiterate from our last video, Anemia is a condition where the blood has a less than adequate amount of red blood cells, or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that lets red blood cells to transport oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. With lower levels of hemoglobin in the body as a result of Anemia, vital organs and tissues including the heart and brain may not get proper oxygen to work effectively.

In our previous video, we went over some measures people can take when dealing with this circumstance. These include taking an EPO medication, checking iron and albumin levels, and making adjustments to fix imbalances.
