Big John Hamilton -'Go Ahead On'

Disc number 001 limited edition promo WEST WILTS SOUL CLUB 2024

We heard this on innumerable journeys in the car travelling to rare soul events across the UK and several times afterwards we searched for a copy, sadly finding it had never been released on vinyl.
So, long story short, we asked the rights holders if we could make a limited run of promo discs & the result is this disc.

John Lee Hamilton was born in Trenton, North Carolina, and after performing as a guitarist/singer in the early 60s with various bands including Etta James, he retired from performing to look after his young family, coming back several years later to record several solo singles (and a couple of duets with Doris Allen) between 1967 & 1970.
‘Go ahead on’ was written by RJ Benninghoff and John Hamilton aiming at a four tops type tune with a driving, compelling beat, and with the legendary Muscle Shoals studios band:
Vocals & guitar Big John Hamilton, Bass David Hood, Drums Roger Hawkins, Keyboards Barry Beckett.

Neither of the tracks on this disc were released at the time, although the flip ‘I’m getting it from her’ appeared on a Japanese only compilation in 1987, ‘Go ahead on’ first appeared on a CD only Sundazed music release in 2006.

This is the original 1968 recording - the 1st officially licensed vinyl press, strictly limited to 100 copies for promotion only by WEST WILTS SOUL CLUB.
