Episode 37! The 1969 Volvo 164 “Ivy” originally had a 4 speed M400 gearbox. The M410 is the same 4 speed gearbox, but bolted up to an electro-hydraulic overdrive unit (supplying the 5th speed) made by Laycock de Normanville, Type J. That unit is the same used in many MG, Triumph and Jaguar cars, as well as all late 60's overdrive M41 transmissions, which had the Type D units before that (Type A for the little MGs). After this came the Type P, used in Volvo 240s. This is the Volvo Laycock De Normanville J-type overdrive step-by-step rebuild video. Rebuilding an M410 is VERY similar to an M40 and M41, only different in being more complicated!
