The picturesque Jaffna is the backdrop for Kandam, the latest film by Next Productions. This sci-fi thriller takes the spectators on a roller coaster ride from the power pumping boardrooms of London through the nondescript fishing village of Kurunagar to the vibrant research facilities of Jaffna.

On being stone-walled by his company, Dr. Ashok Balan, a genetics scientist plunges ahead on his own to study more about the human remains that resurfaces after being buried in the ocean for centuries. Dr. Balan and his comrade, Prof. Mythili Sritharan, are at the threshold of a millennia of mystery but are soon thrust into a race for life, as their research intimidates the scientific community.

The archeological splendour of Jaffna Fort and the ancient Nallur temple provide a perfect mise-en-scenes for this cinematheque. Kandam is the realization of the long-held dream of the Producer, Warren Sinnathamby, and the Director, Pras Lingam, to explore the aesthetic allure of this pristine peninsula.
