Fun fact! Did you know that this photo is actually illegal to release under Scottish and European Union law!

But it is is simply an infographic about this whisky bottle released by a bottler called Compass Box. And it details the different whisky components included in this blend.

It seems fairly harmless, so why is it illegal?

But you see, under EU legislation, whisky sellers can only disclose the age of the “youngest alcoholic component in the drink”. Yet in publishing this infographic, Compass Box had revealed the age components of older 40 and 30 year old whiskeys, when technically it was only allowed to communicate the youngest 19-year-old component.

This pissed off the folks at the Scotch Whisky Association, who moved to censure Compass Box. Now some people find this rule a bit odd because you can argut consumers would benefit from knowing the full information on every component in their product. Compass Box protested this law and even launched a campaign to amend the EU legislation. But alas the campaign was futile and the law remains unchanged.
