I have many memories of just how good this small river was. It went from a river that had nothing but eels and a few bull head fish. To a fine fishery that had chub to 6lb, roach to 2lb and dace pushing a 1lb weight. Not only that there were plenty of these fish to catch. The fish that eventually bred. Were brought back to the Rhymney and Taff from the river Wye. This because in the late 70's the Landowners of the stretches of the Wye Lords and Generals in syndicates. Wanted rid of the coarse fish to encourage there beloved salmon. The coarse fish found there new home to there liking . For a red letter period of approximately 27 years the coarse fish bred freely. River weed helped the fish where they gorged on all manor of bugs.
Then the pollution's started. Destroying the fishes environment and leaving the river devoid of life. I live in hope that it can make a recovery !
