Republican senators grilled Nancy Maldonado, a Biden appellate nominee, during her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for a seat on the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The hearing was on Wednesday, March 20th 2024.

Senator John Kennedy (Republican - Louisiana) questioned her in a brief she signed where she said assault weapons may be banned.

Kennedy: “You said, ‘assault weapons may be banned because they’re extraordinarily dangerous and are not appropriate for legitimate self-defense purposes.’ Tell me what you meant by assault weapons?”

Maldonado: “I’m not a gun expert.”
