The Irish Republican & Marxist History Project.

" The Cork Volunteers' Pipe Band, was formed by Tomás MacCurtáin in 1914, as the band of the Irish Volunteers. Tomás later became Lord Mayor of Cork and was murdered by a horde of Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) in 1920. The CVPB attended at his funeral, as they did later that year at Terence MacSwiney's funeral and much more of Irish Republican Army (IRA) funerals and events. The CVPB was the band of the IRA in Cork and it is recorded that at one time, during British Occupation, all members were in prison. In later years, several members of the band crossed the Border into British Occupied Ireland and took part in the IRA campaign of 1956-62. In its time it attended Republican events all over Ireland".
