Parkgrubb

Описание к видео Parkgrubb

One of our routes up the Comeragh Mountains, passes by this calming pasture.
I am grateful to John O'Dwyer's "The Comeragh, Galtee, Knockmealdown & Slieve Bloom Mountains: A Walking Guide", which provides a wonderful, if not sad, history of this scenic spot.
"Parkgrubb, it was once the upland home of the Ireland family. Ironically, William Ireland, the head of the household, was in the early part of the twentieth century the only non-Irish person resident in Glenary. Born in Wales, he moved to Ireland and married a Longford woman before coming here to take up the position of gamekeeper for Lord Waterford of Curraghmore Estate. He passed away prematurely in 1915 and it was almost inevitable that afterwards his wife and six children would lose the unequal struggle with the hillside. Inevitably, the forces of nature are now busy reclaiming their once-productive fields."
