In this short math video we will be finding simple interest to solve a standardized math test question. We will be giving the initial deposit, the interest rate and the amount of time the money will be invested. We are asked to find the total amount of money in the account at the end of the year. We will review the Simple Interest Formula - I=Prt. We will understand that I represents the interest earned or owed after the length to time, t. We will review that P is the principal which is the initial deposit or amount of money borrowed. We will understand that r represents the interest rate and that the percent must be converted to a decimal in the formula. The t is for time in terms of years, so, 6 months would be 0.5. We will use the formula to calculate the simple interest. We will then add the interest and the principal to determine the total amount of money in the account after the time, t. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
