Flooding on the River Trent, Torksey Railway Viaduct

Following Storm Henk in early January, the River Trent in Nottinghamshire was one of many rivers that suffered flooding.

Here is a Trent as it's peak on 5th January as viewed from the historic Torksey Viaduct that crosses between the counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Torskey Viaduct was built in the late 1840s. An early example of a tubular box design. Not a standard design back in the day and as a result it was not initially accepted by the authorities as a safe design.

It eventually opened in 1850 by the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway. A few major modifications were made in the following years and here it still stands today.
