Rana Bahadur Shah was the son of King Pratap Singh Shah and ruled the country from 1777 to 1799. In 1795, he became infatuated with a Brahman widow, Kantivati Mishra, and married her on the oath of making their illegitimate half-caste song the heir apparent, by excluding the legitimate heir from his second wife Suvarnaprava.
