Listener: A shy introverted university student who has to attend a camping trip with some of his peers as part of a report on “Exploring cultural and social experiences outside of your norm”. The course itself was designed as discussion-based for students to learn to expand their horizons, and this trip was offered so people without a good idea for a topic for the report can find one. The listener fits within this group.

As part of a writing project on experiences outside of their norm, a camping trip was offered to students of a university-funded culture discussion class. As a somewhat shy and introverted guy with not many interesting things to write about, you sign up, just like a few of your peers.

Premise: You arrive to the nearby woods, set up your gear on the site, and help gather branches for a campfire. You can’t help but notice one of your classmates, an extroverted sorority member who often likes taking the lead on some discussion topics in your class, being the only person gathering branches near you. You would occasionally see out of the corner of your eye what looks like her sneaking glances at you, but you brush it off.

Once the fire is started up, the TA assigned to watch over the class opens the cooler they brought, with plenty of drinks and food to cook over the campfire. You pull back the camp fork with your food, grab a plate, pick up a bottled soda from the cooler, and sit down in a quad-fold camping chair. But before you take your first bite, you hear directly from the chair to your right
