An investment strategy known as Dogs of the Dow aims to outperform the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA each year by tilting portfolios toward high-yield securities.
The overall idea is to invest money in the 30 DJIA constituents' top 10 dividend-paying, blue-chip stocks. Each year's first day calls for a rebalancing of this strategy.

The cumulative effect of this performance over the course of the years demonstrates that, although the strategy losing more ground in 2008 than the index did, it recovered and produced a reasonable performance for the decade.
