Harry (Ivan Beavis) finds Lucille (Jennifer Moss) at the corner shop leading to tension between Alice (Avis Bunnage) and Florrie (Betty Alberge). Christine (Christine Hargreaves) encourages Jean (Renny Lister) to defy her parent’s curfew at a dance where they meet two lads and make arrangements to go to Southport with them on Whit Monday. Ena (Violet Carson) secures Blackpool for the Whit Monday picnic. Lucille tries to reconcile with her aunt but Alice secretly searches for a new job. Annie (Doris Speed) insists that Jack (Arthur Leslie) wear formal attire for the Licensee's Ball. Alice announces her plans to leave No.7 for another housekeeping job risking Lucille's return to the orphanage which Lucille overhears leaving her upset.
