Hi everyone!

We are Juan Ignacio Urquijo and Dayana Melamed, an industrial designer and a medical doctor currently residing in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Originally from the vibrant city of Barranquilla, we have brought our Colombian roots and values with us to this new land we now call home. Together, we have embarked on a culinary project called "La Ventana", where we share delicious caribbean cuisine in Porto Alegre. (@laventana.co @de.melamed @jiup85)

Floodwaters the last week have engulfed multiple cities, leaving more than 844,673 people (05/05/2024 - CNN Brasil) in desperate need across 334 municipalities (the state has 496 municipalities in total), including Porto Alegre.

There are now more than 115,000 people temporarily homeless and this number is increasing every hour. People are dying, others are missing, and the situation is chaotic.

Fortunately, we have not suffered the direct consequences of the recent catastrophic flooding that has struck the region. However, witnessing the suffering and the lack of expected assistance from the authorities, we feel a profound indignation. We refuse to stand idly by in the face of the adversity our neighbors, friends and animals are experiencing.

We firmly believe in the power of solidarity and community action to make a difference in times of crisis. We want to be part of the solution and contribute significantly to alleviating the suffering of those who need it most right now.

We are committed to working tirelessly to do our part and hope to count on your support in this noble cause of helping our acquaintances and friends restart their lives.

We also want to help and rescue animals until we can find a permanent home and a caregiver. Resources will be allocated to individuals and communities on the front lines committed to this work. Any contribution will make a difference.

We have created a Google Drive where we will attach all evidence, photos, tickets and the destination of the money and share will all of you.

Items needed:

Hygiene: people need soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene towels, diapers, creams, general hygiene products, deodorants.

Food: people need a basic food basket for 7 days of food for the people. we want to be able to guarantee many more days.

Transportation: We are transporting donations to frontline locations and shelters, we need gasoline to get around.

Veterinary Medications: They need dewormer, disinfectant, flea and tick treatments.
