Originally published in two separate volumes in 1980 and 1983, Rachael Pollack's 78 Degrees of Wisdom is often the first title you come across if you google "best tarot books". It has the reputation of being a classic.

But it's a heavy, turgid book that needlessly complicates and mystifies tarot, when what we need is for tarot to become simpler and clearer. The author says at the end of the book "We remain ignorant". I believe the opposite: we actually know more than we think we know, and we need to let go of the idea that we are ignorant.

After I talked about this book in a previous video (see link below) friendly YouTuber @brotherbor commented: "A note about Rachel Pollack’s 78 degrees of wisdom: she has issued an updated book called Tarot Wisdom in 2011, where she criticized herself the flaws in her 78 degrees book." That's really interesting - I look forward to reading that one.
