Welcome to the Nuss Collection Truck Museum!

Hi, I’m Bob Nuss. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a very unique truck: a 1947 Mack EH tractor, single axle. This truck was originally sold to Freeport Silo in Freeport, Illinois, back in 1947 and later picked up by Birch and Carmichael in Rochelle, Illinois. Their talented technician restored this truck about 40 years ago.

Interestingly, this truck was initially painted without any identifying name. It later appeared in the movie "Man Against the Mob," filmed in Sycamore, Illinois. You can find it on YouTube! In the film, the truck was dubbed "Superior Trucking," and the movie company added vinyl graphics to the doors.

We acquired this truck from Ben Birch in Rochelle, whose family has deep roots with ours. Ben's father, Barton, was a good friend of my dad, and they were longtime customers since the 1960s.

Upon researching the truck, we discovered that a local company, Schmitt's Rochester Bottling, used similar trucks as Schmitt beer distributors. This truck proudly displays the Schmitt logo on its doors. It’s a beautiful piece, showcasing a restoration from about 40 years ago.

Our team has polished it up nicely, but one unique feature to note is the fuel tank. Old-time truckers will recognize the single tank design with saddles, allowing fuel to run over the frame rails. While this original tank has some issues and no longer holds fuel, we’ve added another tank, preserving its historical significance.

Come visit and appreciate this classic piece of trucking history!
