Back at the start of June, Richard Leonard addressed Holyrood as convenor of the Public Audit Committee to debate the committee's conclusions and recommendations in the Public Audit Committee's 1st Report, New Vessels for the Clyde and the Hebrides – Arrangements to Deliver Vessels 801 and 802.

Mr Leonard didn't hold back as spoke about the committee's findings. He mentioned government and ministers withholding information, not being transparent, leaking information to the press first before the committee and many other obstructions and obfuscation.

SNP MSP Neil Gray defended fellow SNP ministers who were on the Public Audit Committee: ' I pay tribute to Willie Coffey and Colin Beattie, as I do to all other members of committees of this Parliament who consider the evidence before them and take judgments based on that evidence, and I think that it is shameful that their contributions have been denigrated.

As Willie Coffey said, the issue has become so polarised and politicised that, unfortunately, I do not even think that I can say that the proud tradition of shipbuilding on the Clyde is supported unanimously in this Parliament'.
