Eight's Lost chapter is the first one to feature a level 200 quest. To manage the countdown orb, you must use characters that perform counterattacks, making Eight the best choice. He is far from necessary though.

As the only counterattacking character I have built, I brought Machina for damage dealing purposes. His counters didn't help much because WoL was keeping the foes taunted most of the time. As such most of the special orbs blew up in my face, but it didn't really matter because WoL was able to negate all of them anyway.

Kefka is here for debuffing support and having a Burst weapon.

Overall this wasn't as hard as I was expecting. With either WoL or Eight fully built this should be fairly simple. Other counterattackers like Shadow, Cater, or Galuf may help too. Apparently Noctis BT effect counts as well.
