PROCLAMATION - HONORING RICHARD C. ARAIZA
FOR HIS THIRTY TWO YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE
COMMUNITY OF SANTA PAULA AND TO THE SANTA PAULA FIRE DEPARTMENT


WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza served thirty two years with the City of Santa Paula Fire Department from 1986 through 2018; and

WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza served as a firefighter for 10 years; before being promoted to Assistant Chief for ten years; Chief Araiza served as the Fire Chief for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza oversaw the city’s safety during significant city-wide emergencies; as with the 2017 Thomas Fire; the 2014 Mission Incident; the floods of 2005; the 2005 South Mountain Fire; the 2003 Piru Fire; the 2003 Simi Fire; and

WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza worked diligently with city management and administration to significantly improve fire and safety operation, including the purchase of three fire apparatus, two safer grants for additional full-time firefighters and numerous other grants to keep the fire department operating safely; and

WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza’s responsibility increased in 2009 to include the Building and Safety Department, ensuring building and construction projects increased the safety and welfare, of the City and it’s residences; and

WHEREAS, when the need arose, Richard C. Araiza was willing to expand his service to the citizens of the City of Santa Paula, by assuming the duties and responsibilities of Acting City Manager; and

WHEREAS, Richard C. Araiza’s performance of the duties and responsibilities of the City’s Executive staff have been characterized by excellent and constructive contributions to Municipal Government in the City of Santa Paula; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ginger Gherardi, Mayor of the City of Santa Paula, and on behalf of the City Council, and all of our citizens, do hereby commend and thank Richard C. Araiza for his distinguished service to the City of Santa Paula.
