It's finally time to say goodbye to that terrible wire cable, and hello to the wonder world of synthetic winch rope. My Q9000 winch came stock with 100' of 3/8" Cable and I'm upgrading to 75' of 3/8" AmSteel-Blue Dyneema SK-75 Synthetic Rope. I decided to go with only 75' because I usually winch to close objects at tight angles and I'm tired of the cable always bunching up on one side. I've never needed all 100' of cable and If i do need more, I can always use my tow straps.

After installing the Synthetic rope, you're going to need a polished aluminum Hawse Fairlead to keep the rope in good shape. Using you're old Roller fairlead is a bad idea because the scratches will cut into the rope or it may get caught in the corners where the rollers meet. I just chose the cheapest one I could find which was a Smittybilt.

The last thing was to attach a hook to the end of my rope. After finding out that my old hook wasn't going to fit, I needed to find one that would fit the loop and attach to it without undoing the rope end. I settled on a Half Link Winch Hook that could attach to the rope thimble and then be connected via a hammer pin. I got a good deal off JeepSwag for that one. If you wanted to save some of this hassle then you can just buy the rope with the Hook already attached but It was a bit more then what I was willing to pay for.
