(13 Jul 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks with his Mexican counterpart Luis Videgaray in Mexico City on Friday.
Pompeo, who led a high level US delegation to Mexico, earlier met with President Enrique Pena Nieto as well as with President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador  
Speaking at a joint news conference later, Videgaray said that Pena Nieto's government and the government of Lopez Obrador  have forged a united front to work on all matters dealing with their northern neighbour.
"This is the moment to work for Mexico," he stated.
In his statement Videgaray mentioned that Pena Nieto had  spoken to Pompeo about the need to quickly reunite migrant families separated at the border.
Pompeo on his part said, "Americans must be able to see improvements that better protect our national sovereignty and the safety of our local communities."
"I respectfully reinforced the importance of the border issue in each of our conversations today."
The delegation that accompanied Pompeo to Mexico includes President Donald Trump's son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
