The Tamil Nadu Police Museum at Egmore, Chennai, has been opened to the public and was unveiled by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday. The museum holds almost 200-year-old artifacts. In fact, the building in which the museum has been built was the old Commissioner’s office of Chennai Police from 1856 to 2013.

Considering the heritage of the building, it has been turned into a museum at the cost of Rs 6.47 crore. Furthermore, artifacts seized from sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, LTTE Prabhakaran have also been displayed in the museum.

Steve Borgia, the curator of the state-of-the-art museum, stated that it is a commemorative way of appreciating the sacrifice by the state police force and their commendable job in maintaining law and order. "They need this kind of recognition. This is all history for the future generation. This is an 1852 building which has to be conserved and a museum was created. Nothing was purchased and everything was collected from various police stations. This is a great tribute not only to the policemen but also to their families,” Steve Borgia added.

The museum officials are expecting more artifacts in the near future to be added to the collection after being restored.
