Defying pollsters' forecasts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) successfully held on to power in Haryana, boosting its seat count from 40 to 48 and its vote share from 36.5% to 39.9%, securing a third consecutive term. The Congress, while seeing an impressive 11-point rise in its vote share to 39.1%, only marginally increased its seats by six, bringing its total to 37. The regional parties representing the dominant Jat community, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), performed poorly, with their combined vote share plummeting from 21% in 2019 to just 7% in 2024, which worked in favor of Congress. However, BJP’s strategic social maneuvering, gaining backing from non-Jat OBCs by promoting leaders from these communities, along with its urban stronghold, ensured its victory.
At the 70th National Film Awards held on Tuesday, director Vishal Mourya and producer Deependra Samal were honored with the Best Odia Film award for their movie Daman. Congratulating the team, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed, "Heartfelt congratulations to the Daman team for securing the Best Odia Film award at the 70th National Film Awards. This national recognition will undoubtedly inspire the state’s cinema industry in the coming days."
