In general, when making big bets on the flop or turn, you want to have at least some equity. Betting with a gutshot straight draw or a flush draw is much more profitable than betting with two random cards that can’t improve. When bluffing against loose and splashy opponents, it’s advantageous to take some time to deliberate over your decisions, even when you’ve already made up your mind. This is because feigning weakness or uncertainty may encourage them to continue bluffing.

🔍 Preflop:
With the $400 straddle on, Stanley Choi raises to $1,200 from the button with AJo. Sensing some weakness, Nik Airball 3-bets to $6,200 from the small blind with 73 of diamonds. After the big blind folds, Choi calls as the two of them head to the flop.
💸 Flop - Kd Jh 2s:
Unsurprisingly, Airball completely bricks the flop, but he does have a backdoor flush draw. He decides to continue telling his story and fires out a continuation bet of $6,000. Choi has flopped middle pair and a backdoor straight draw to broadway. He calls and they head to the turn with Airball virtually drawing dead.
💣 Turn - Tc:
The T of clubs on the turn doesn’t improve Airball, leaving him with a 0% chance to win at showdown. His only way to win the pot is by making Choi fold. Airball decides to make an overbet of $30,000 with just seven-high. Choi, holding second pair and now having picked up that backdoor straight draw, decides it's enough to stick around and makes the call.
🌊 River - 2d:
A board-pairing deuce of diamonds on the river sees Airball unload the clip with a third and final barrel, betting $160,000, just under twice the size of the pot with just seven high. Will Airball’s bluff get through, or will Choi sniff it out and add some pocket change to the billions he already has in the bank? Stay tuned until the end of this poker video to find out!
