*** Throwback Thursday
This originally went live on Dec. 18, 2012 for a now defunct bike event for the now defunct Highlands Pedalers cycling club based out of the now defunct Kenilworth Lodge in Sebring, FL. I used a few action cams to capture the footage, including my Contour cam and GoPros I borrowed from a local outfit called "Mountain Top Productions." I don't know if they're still around and I have lost contact with the primaries over the years. In this video, fairly polished for my skill set at the time, I used Fiverrr to hire voice actors and even interviewed a participant. I will always be proud of this edit, even though it's far from professional and whatever Highlands Pedalers paid me for this, it was TOO much, obviously. LOL Lots of cycling and editing memories in this video for me.
There are several long-format videos of KenLodge, some being "ghost hunter" types. All filmed by people trespassing but, IMO, so long as they weren't adding to the existing destruction .... who cares. I actually stayed at this hotel in 2005 when interviewing with the local newspaper (there were two at the time, the one I worked for still remains, if only barely) so between bike events, other social events and Highlands Bike Fest and Tour of Sebring, lots of memories here for me.
One of the many available videos: • abandoned resort, left everything! w lots ...
The narration, done by paid voice actors, was from scripts I wrote...so yes, they can be kind of cheesy and sometimes cheeky, if you pick up on it. LOL Enjoy!
Learn more about Kenilworth Lodge, which still stands but is in disrepair. The closure of this majestic property, along with infighting at the bike club, eventually resulted in the two annual events collapsing.
Let's Ride!
-----Original Description below--------
Produced for Highlands Pedalers, this video encapsulates the essence of the growing emergence of Sebring, Florida, as a cycling destination vacation. The low traffic, rural roads takes riders through abundant orange groves and past famous landmarks all while riders enjoy professional SAG support, fully-stocked rest stops and family-oriented activities between rides.
The routes vary from 10 miles to 100, perfect for beginners, families and hardcore enthusiasts. These are touring rides, not races, and are ridden at one's own pace. But, with several hundred participants from across Florida and from several other states, all level of riders are sure to fall into a group or pace line with others in their ability level.
The rides begin and end at Historic Kenilworth Lodge, where most visiting riders enjoy top-notch hospitality and included daily deluxe lunches served buffet style and are "all you can eat," which can be a lot after spending all morning in the saddle.
Outside of Kenilworth Lodge, there are great local and national retail shopping opportunities, modern theaters and great dining from high-end steak houses to international cuisine ranging from Mongolian BBQ to Indian to Thai.
Visitors to Sebring, Lake Placid and Avon Park are encouraged to link up with Highlands Pedalers members, who ride almost daily and are most welcoming of new and guest riders. In addition to road riding, Sebring boasts about 20 miles of single-track, off-road "mountain biking" at The Preserves, in the Sun N Lake independent taxing district just north of Sebring.
Highlands Pedalers & Kenilworth Lodge are proud to put on Tour of Sebring and Highlands Bike Fest.
Using Highlands County Tourist Development Council funding, Highlands Pedalers commissioned this video, which was filmed and edited by Shutt Chute Media in conjunction with Mountain Top Productions.
