Описание к видео The Gender Health Gap: Uncovering the Shocking Truths

Did you know:
• Women are diagnosed, on average, 4 years later than men across 770 diseases, from diabetes to cancer? For cancer specifically, it's 2.5 years later, and women are twice as likely to have to report symptoms 5+ times before diagnosis.
• Only 1% of global healthcare research and innovation is invested in female-specific conditions beyond cancer? Similarly, only 1% of pharma R&D spending goes to maternal health.
• Women are twice as likely to suffer adverse side effects from medication, partly because they've been excluded from pharma research?
• Women weren't even required in U.S. clinical research until 1993!

This video dives deep into the systemic issues affecting women's health, highlighting widespread misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. For instance, women with heart attack symptoms are often misdiagnosed with stress or panic disorder instead of receiving a full cardiovascular diagnostic workup, and women presenting with chest pain wait 29% longer than men to be evaluated for a possible heart attack. It's even more critical given women are more than twice as likely to die after a heart attack than men.

We also explore diagnosis struggles for conditions like hypothyroidism, where women are more likely to be misdiagnosed with depression and anxiety or have their symptoms blamed on menopause. Endometriosis, affecting 1 in 10 women, can take up to 10 years to diagnose (longer for Black women), with 75% of patients reporting misdiagnosis with a physical or mental health problem beforehand. Even common conditions like PCOS are up to 70% undiagnosed.

Beyond diagnosis, we expose the underfunding of vital research.
Migraine, the leading cause of disability among young women, remains one of the most underfunded neurological conditions.
Despite 2 in 3 Alzheimer's patients being women, only 12% of NIH research focuses on women's health. Furthermore, significantly more funding goes into prostate cancer research than into ovarian, cervical, and uterine cancers. Astonishingly, there is 5x more research on erectile dysfunction (affecting 19% of men) than on PMS (affecting 90% of women).

The video also touches on:
• The alarming rise in non-smoking-related lung cancers in women (+84%) versus a decrease in men (-36%) over 42 years.
• The concerning trends in fertility research, where male factor infertility is responsible for 50% of cases, yet most research still considers female infertility the main culprit. Over 70% of internal medicine residency programmes reviewed in 2016 didn't include infertility on their curriculum.
• The impact of medical gaslighting, experienced by 72% of female patients, with women in pain more likely to be given sedatives instead of painkillers.
• The staggering lack of anatomical understanding of the clitoris until 2005, and the NIH only having a research branch studying female sexual organs beyond reproduction until 2012.
• The concerning fact that 76% of students believe they are taught more about the biology of frogs than the female body.
