CATS was a band from Philly, that began in 1976 an ended in 1981. They were signed to ELEKTRA in 1980 and opened for VanHalen in 80-81.

The Principle band members were: Michael Corr (vox, writer), Fred Zara (keys, vox, writer) , Dan Twestin (rhythm gtr, vox, writer), Tommy Stewart (drums), Dennis Tilli (bass) and Peter Keltz (sp) (lead guitar). Various other musicians contributed in the years leading up to this performance, included George Carnell, Jimmy Mahoney and Alan Young (a.k.a. Captain Muggles; a.k.a. Jimmy Allen on sax).

Prior to being signed to Elektra, the band recorded at Quad Recording studio in 1976 (thanks to engineer, producer, guitarist George Carnell), with one song recorded at STARR Recording in the Society Hill Towers in Philly - for the WMMR Breakout album (1979). I recorded the band at Earmark Recording Studios, also in Philly, in 1977 and also mid-to-late 1979.

This recording - forgive the "lack of soundcheck" mix of the opening song - was performed at STARZ, a small club in Philly, in late 1979. The tape came to me in pieces, spliced back together, and cleaned up as best as possible (aside from a bunch of wrinkles).

I am responsible for the mix, which in spots holds up very well and showcases a band that had the potential for a greater audience. The tape was uniquely recorded with one channel direct off the Kelsey mixer and the other track a mic at the mixing board position. I treated these two tracks as "Mid-Side," recreating a pseudo-stereo mix.

The recording represents the band before management and poor producer choice attempted to turn them into something they were not.
