What are the Legal Issues Around Contact Tracing Technology?

With the help of smartphones, and their ability to track one another through Bluetooth, this tracking can be done quickly and entirely anonymously. It's kind of like how Tile uses crowdsourcing to help find your lost valuables tagged with their trackers.

Because this technology can help us identify individuals that may be carriers of a virus or another pathogen, along with everyone else that has come in contact with that individual, the technology is a potential way to help to stop the spread of such diseases. If you have been found to have come into contact with a disease carrier, the technology can immediately alert you or any user that is at risk to seek medical testing or assistance.

Apple and Google are planning to roll this technology right into future software updates. But with any tracking technology, there must be some security and privacy issues that need to be addressed.
