I run the WTB 2.6 Tough casing tires for the alpine stuff- they are HUGE and heavy, but SO solid and secure that it’s my go to choice for remote, rugged riding. Unfortunately I had some bad luck with brakes. The stock Shimano units will work fine for most places without significant (1,000 vertical feet in a few minutes) descending, but if you’re pushing the limits on gnarly terrain, you’ll want a set of 4 piston brakes.
