I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this song was written by Shel Silverstein with Vincent Matthews. I had thought it was written by Gordon Lightfoot who made it famous on his "Don Quixote" Album. I knew Shel Silverstein's poetry from the Children's anthologies "A Light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends." Shel also composed "A Boy named Sue" for Johnny Cash.
