And conversely, having no hereditary risk of cancer that's identified doesn't make you immune to getting cancer. It is predominantly an environmental disease. It's a disease where we can make associations, but we don't directly know the cause of breast cancer. We just know that it's on the rise and that it's linked to different risks such as a high fat diet, obesity, alcoholism. There are environmental factors that do increase your risk.

Dr. Barry Rosen is a breast surgical oncologist in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, where he has been in practice for over 25 years. Simultaneously, he has worked as Chief Medical Officer for hospitals and industry and is currently a medical director at Aptitude Health.

There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
