- What is Isotretinoin For ACNE (Accutane)?

- Isotretinoin is a retinoic acid derivative antiacne agent. It reduces sebum secretion and sebaceous gland size, inhibits sebaceous gland differentiation, and alters sebum lipid composition.

- So it is used in the treatment of severe cystic acne (also known as nodular acne) that has not responded to other treatment (such as benzoyl peroxide, or clindamycin applied to the skin, or tetracycline or minocycline taken by mouth).

- It is available as 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg and 40 mg capsules.

The usual dose of Isotretinoin for adults is 0.5 to 2 mg/kg/day, divided into 2 doses, for 15 to 20 weeks.
