John 3:16 isn’t just a verse—it’s God’s mission statement.

John 3:16 might be the most familiar verse in the Bible—but familiarity can dull us to its power. In Week One of our series, The Mission, we slow down and sit with the gospel “in a nutshell” and discover something bigger: John 3:16 doesn’t just explain salvation—it reveals the missionary heart of God.

Mission didn’t begin with church strategy, obligation, or programs. Mission began in the heart of a loving Father. The Father’s love is not sentimental or safe—it is redemptive love that moves, steps into brokenness, and pays a cost to rescue the world.

In this message, we unpack five gospel realities from John 3:16:

✅ The Greatest Love — “For God so loved the world…” (God’s love is gracious, undeserved, and aimed at rebellious humanity)
✅ The Greatest Gift — “That He gave His one and only Son…” (incarnation + cross = sacrificial love)
✅ The Greatest Invitation — “That whoever believes…” (not just intellectual assent, but entrusting your whole life to Jesus)
✅ The Greatest Escape — “Should not perish…” (perishing is real—mission exists because eternity matters)
✅ The Greatest Promise — “But have eternal life…” (not only future heaven, but present life with God—John 17:3)

This is a call for 2026: Love moves. The love that sent Jesus is the same love that sends the church—into our city, our neighbors, and the nations.

We don’t do missions to earn God’s love.
We do missions because we’ve been captured by it.
