Jabulile Majola Live - Big Little Concepts S01E01

It was our first time meeting - and hearing - Jabulile Majola when he joined us on the first ever day of filming for this channel. His first song, “Bamb’isandla Sam’”, opened with a haunting falsetto that instantly captured the attention of everyone in the room, and we stayed transfixed (and entertained) for the full 19 minutes of his performance. Jabulile kept his jacket on throughout his performance despite the November heat, but the heat of the day had nothing on the warmth of his performance.

His second song, “Woza Mtwana”, which was released on all streaming platforms shortly after filming, introduces the theme of love. We were all somewhat shocked when we were called to singalong to the ethereal chorus, but Jabulile’s gentle encouragement and clear enjoyment of the spotlight helped us all through.

He introduced his last song, “Nyana kaMaria”, with an entertaining (and relatable) story about lightbulb moments striking during load shedding, and its spiritual lyrics and low-register vocal delivery added a poignant and meaningful conclusion to the performance and our first day of filming.
