Описание к видео Marilyn Monroe Got $75 Per Week While Studios Made Millions - The Theft Nobody Talks About

June 1946. A 19-year-old girl signs her first Hollywood contract. $75 per week. She thinks she's made it. She hasn't. She's just signed away her freedom for 7 years. Over the next 16 years, Marilyn Monroe will make Hollywood hundreds of millions of dollars. They'll pay her pennies in comparison. This is the financial exploitation nobody talks about.

💰 THE CONTRACTS THAT ENSLAVED HER
1946 - First Fox Contract: $75/week ($31,000/year in today's money). The studio owned her completely for 7 years. They could use her image anywhere, loan her to other studios, and keep all profits. After 1 year, they dropped her. Not profitable enough.

1951 - Second Fox Contract: $500/week ($26,000/year today). Better but still exploitation. The studio controlled everything - her roles, her publicity, her public image. She couldn't negotiate. Couldn't refuse roles. Couldn't work elsewhere.

1956 - After Her Rebellion: $100,000 per film plus some creative control. She'd fled to New York and refused to return for 18 months. Fox finally negotiated. This was revolutionary for actresses at the time - but still nowhere near fair.

📊 THE OBSCENE PROFIT NUMBERS
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953): Grossed $5.3 million. Marilyn's salary: $18,000. That's 0.3% of the profits. The studio made $5.3 million off her work. She got $18,000.

How to Marry a Millionaire (1953): Grossed $8 million. Marilyn's salary: $18,000 again. The studio made $8 million. She got 0.2% of what she created.

The Seven Year Itch (1955): Grossed $6 million. Created the most iconic image in cinema history - that white dress over the subway grate. Marilyn made $15,000 total for the film. That image has generated hundreds of millions in licensing revenue over 70 years. She got a flat $15,000 and nothing more.
Some Like It Hot (1959): Grossed $25 million ($250 million in today's money). One of the greatest comedies ever made. Marilyn made $300,000. The studio made $24.7 million in profit. She got 1.2%.

🎭 THE STUDIO SYSTEM TRAP
The contracts were designed to trap actors. If you refused a role, the studio suspended you without pay. And that suspension time was ADDED to your contract. A 7-year contract could become 10 years if you fought back. Actors couldn't work for other studios. Couldn't negotiate better terms. Couldn't control their careers. It was legalized exploitation.

💔 OTHER PEOPLE PROFITING OFF HER BODY
The Nude Calendar (1949): Tom Kelley paid her $50 to pose naked when she was broke and desperate. Hugh Hefner bought those photos for $500 and launched Playboy magazine. Hefner built a multi-million dollar empire off Marilyn's naked body. She got $50 total. No royalties. No percentage. Nothing.

🔥 THE FINAL INSULT
June 7, 1962. Marilyn's 36th birthday. Fox fires her from "Something's Got to Give" and sues her for $500,000. The woman who made them hundreds of millions over 16 years - they fire her on her birthday and sue her. Why? They needed a scapegoat for their financial problems. Marilyn was vulnerable and easy to blame.
Two months later, she's dead. Fox immediately profits more. They own her image. They license it. Sell it. Make millions more off her death than they paid her in life.

💸 TODAY'S CONTINUED EXPLOITATION
Marilyn Monroe's estate generates $4-5 million annually in licensing revenue. Her image is everywhere - merchandise, fashion, advertising. Everyone makes money off Marilyn Monroe except Marilyn Monroe. She died with $800,000 in assets and $40,000 in debt. That's what 16 years as Hollywood's biggest star left her.
