Baroque Opera - Music Appreciation

We trace the origins of Opera from the Camerata in Italy in the late 1500’s through the early efforts of Peri and Caccini, through to Monteverdi and onwards to Caccini, to Lully in France, to Handel in England, and back to Pergolesi in Italy. We learn how Recitative was born and how Opera gradually developed from there to containing Arias, Choruses, Ballet, orchestral movements and the other features that make up Opera. We learn about the evolution of Opera Seria and Opera Buffa and how Italian Opera grew within and outside the Italian border. Join us for this fascinating story and discover how Opera was established and developed.
