HISTORY OF ROMANIA

Romania has a rich and diverse history that spans back thousands of years. The region was inhabited by various tribes, including the Dacians, Getae, and Thracians. The Romans conquered the region in 106 AD, establishing the province of Dacia.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the region was invaded by various tribes, including the Huns, Goths, and Slavs. In 1310 Radu Negru united some Romanians and formed the first Romanian principality, Wallachia. Later in 1346 another principality, Moldavia was formed. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ottoman Empire conquered the region and ruled over it for several centuries.

In 1859, Wallachia and Moldavia united under Alexandru Ioan Cuza, but still under Ottoman influence. In 1877-1878 the country fought together with Russia a war against the Ottomans, becoming a fully sovereign state.
