The Indian subcontinent boasts a vast coastline of about 7,516 km, stretching across 9 states and the two island groups. And it can be broadly divided into two regions - the Western and the Eastern coast.

The Western Coast of India stretches from the Gulf of Cambay in the north to Kanyakumari in the south. Gujarat's Gulf of Kutch is renowned for its marine life and flamingo breeding grounds. The Konkan coast boasts popular tourist destinations like the beaches of Goa and scenic hill stations in Maharashtra. Karnataka's coastal plains feature ancient temples and stunning landscapes, while Kerala's Malabar coast is famous for its backwaters and traditional cuisine.

The Eastern coast of India is a narrow strip of land located between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal, stretching from the Ganga delta to Kanniyakumari. The Coromandel coast in Tamil Nadu is known for its fertile deltas, ancient seaports, and sandy beaches. The Northern Circars, located in Andhra Pradesh, is famous for its oil and natural gas reserves. The Utkal Plain in Odisha is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and temples. West Bengal coast is famous for its picturesque beaches, estuaries, and mangrove forests.

Did you know that India's major ports handle over 90% of the country's total trade by volume and 70% by value? it's essential to note that these regions serve as a cultural melting pot and play a crucial role in the country's economy through trade. With ports dotted along the coast, these areas are essential gateways for international commerce, connecting India to the rest of the world.
